These are a few of my favorite things. 08.24.2009

So, I guess the summer is officially over.  Today Pearland started back to school. It is sad in one way and in a major way GREAT! I am so happy to start pretending that I feel cool breezes and to start wearing hoodies:) Even though this has got to most certainly be the hottest place on earth, I truly am in love with Houston. We celebrated our first anniversary at the end of June. It has been one of the most exciting years of Tyler and I's marriage. We feel that we are being carried along, riding the wave of God's sweet grace. I thought I would blog about my favorite places in Houston.  I know to most of you this won't mean a hill of beans, but I thought it would be nice for you guys to imagine where you might find me during the week.

This first picture is of the BrowsAroun (notice the non-"d") Antique Store. It is absolutely fabulous. I have decorated most of my house with diy projects from this store, but that is a whole nother blog. If you know me, then you will know that this place is a budget breaker for me.  We are on a first name basis with the owner, Don, a sweet, retired old man. If we are ever in another antique store Aevyn asks me if we are there to see Mr. Don. Also, this is where Aevyn walked in the door and said that it smelled like an elephant.

HOW pray tell, did I live without HEB? Here, truly, everything is better!!! This place is amazing. I have found their prices very compatible with Wal-Mart, and you would not believe how amazing the food is. They have people on-sight doing cooking demonstrations all over the store.  They give away free balloons to the kids. They give you "Buddy Bucks" to go play in the toy dispensers. They make fresh tortillas, and sushi right before your eyes. Not to mention, these stands are all manned by people native to the country of the meal they are cooking:) LOVE this place. Oh, and did I mention the huge, two-seater carts??

Please disregard the nastiness of this photo. My third favorite place in Houston, is The Pear Tree. YUMMY! If you are a girl and like girl food (ie. chicken salad, chocolate coke cake, tea, etc.) then THIS is where I will take you when you come to visit. The owner shares my love of toile, and it is a wonderful, girly place to have a meal.

This is my dear friend Meredith. Here we are at Empire Cafe in Mid-Townish Houston. This place is awesome! My favorite thing to eat here is the Tortellini Salad. They have pieces of cake that are literally the size of my head. It is unbelievable. The ambiance is very chic and uptown. LOVE IT.

Lastly, Second Baptist Church. I cannot begin to express my love for this church, and our sweet Pastor, Dr. Ed Young.  We have been blessed beyond measure by the health of this body and it's obedience to the Word.  Every Sunday morning when I prepare to lead worship I tell the Lord that going to corporate worship is like a drug. I can hardly wait to taste the presence of the Lord, and hear the Word.  Of course, everyday is like that with Jesus, right? We are so thankful to God for bringing us here and hope to have MANY more years in Houston!

Did I fail to mention the Cupcake Cafe?? OH MY WORD.

Les, you MUST visit Central Market if you haven't already, but I do agree that HEB is great. It just so happened we lived in walking distance to Whole Foods so that is where we ended up going the most. And how about those Signature Kroger stores? I got back to Memphis and felt like all the Kroger groceries were so boring. Also, I have heard that the Chocolate Bar is fabulous. I think it is near West University Place area. And have you been to the Bayou City Art Festival? We really liked that experience. And lastly, I must tell you about Smoothie Island Juice Bar where they have the best garlic chicken pita wrap you might ever taste!! Just ask Kara Lee and she'll tell you how great they are =) Oh, and Jamba Juice. Really miss that place too. Well, and the Nordstrom! We'll just have to come visit you guys someday.
